Miami International Airport Miami, Florida, U.S.A. 2 March 2008 After a relaxing vacation, Catherine and I started our return journey home at the Miami airport. While waiting for our flight I snapped a few photos of airliner movements. Can you guess which airline we were flying?

O'Hare International Airport Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. 21 February and 2 March 2008 Catherine and I passed through O'Hare will on our way to Florida for a vacation. Natually I went looking for the displayed F4F between flights, and I found it. The album here includes a few different angles of the bird.

Muir AAF Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA 1 October 2007 After leaving Irwin I made the long haul to the Capital City Airport in Harrisburg. I found the Defense Supply Center there but the aircraft are not accessible to the public. From there is was on to the ANG at the Harrisburg International Airport. I saw the P-51 there, but it too is not accessible to the public. I then moved on to Muir AAF north of Harrisburg and struck gold. I found the F-102 displayed there, along with a newly displayed C-130, UH-1, AH-1 and H-6. I took a number of pictures. It was then back on the road homeward bound. I arrived back in Ottawa around 10:30 PM.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 Irwin, Pennsylvania, USA 1 October 2007 I then left New Kensington in the north east side of Pittsburgh to Irwin in the south east side. When I was there I found the local VFW with their displayed T-33. I took a few pictures of the T-33 and the other memorials displayed there.

Memorial Park New Kensington, Pennsylvania, USA 1 October 2007 After getting my pictures at the VFW I returned to the park that I passed while on my way there. I managed to find the entrance to the park and my way through the park to the displayed T-33. The lighting was excellent so I was able to take a number of walk around pictures. You will see in the pictures this is one T-33 that needs some TLC. Unfortunately it will take more than a new coat of paint.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 92 New Kensington, Pennsylvania, USA 1 October 2007 I left Zanesville and returned to the airport at Cadiz. I was not able to find a T-33 that was supposed to be displayed there, so I continued onto New Kensington on the north east side of Pittsburgh. I was looking for a T-33 that was supposed to be displayed at a Legion there, but I could not find it in the town. I then continued onto the VFW outside of town and then noticed the T-33 in a park along the way. When I got to the VFW I photographed the UH-1 they have displayed there.

Zanesville Municipal Airport Zanesville, Ohio, USA 1 October 2007 After staying in Columbus one more night, I left early Monday morning for home, but with a few stops planned along the way. I was leaving early of course, well before the sunrise and my first stop was at the truck stop near Newark where I ate breakfast the Friday morning, and then continued east with a stop in Zanesville. My goal was to find an AH-1 at a VVA. I found the VVA, and another veteran’s facility, but I did not find the AH-1 at either location. I continued on to the airport and easily found the F-105 displayed in front in the terminal. Fortunately the sun was beginning to rises and I was able to take a number of walk-around shots.

Historical Aircraft Squadron Lancaster, Ohio, USA 30 September 2007 From the VVA traveled west along the secondary roads to Lancaster. Just north-west of Lancaster is a small airport which is home to the Historical Aircraft Squadron. I arrived as the sun was setting (that has been happening often lately). The museum of course was closed, but a number of the aircraft are outside so I took my pictures as quickly as I could. By the time I left and was back on the road to my hotel the sun had set.

American Veterans Post 2256 Circleville, Ohio, USA 30 September 2007 After the show was over on Sunday I left and instead of heading north back to my hotel, I turned south to go to Circleville. I was looking for the local AMVETS. I found it east of the town with an F-105 display. The late afternoon sun was lighting up the F-105 well so I was able to get a number of pictures.

94th Aero Squadron Restaurant Columbus, Ohio, USA 29 September 2007 Even though the sunset was getting to be quite advanced, I decided to try and find the P-51 displayed at the airport in the north half of Columbus. I found it on the east side of the airport at a 94th Aero Squadron restaurant. It turned out to be a fiberglass replica (no surprise), and is likely one of the many replicas that David Tallichet had made for his restaurants. Even thought it was really too dark at this point, I tried to get a few pictures anyway by using fence posts and the ground to steady the camera. The shots turned out better than I expected.

MOTTS Military Museum Columbus, Ohio, USA 29 September 2007 After the show on Saturday I only had to travel a short distance north from Rickenbacker field to find the MOTTS Military Museum. It was after their open hours of course, but I was able to get a few pictures of the helos and the A-7 over the fence.

Newark Heath Airport Newark, Ohio, USA 28 September 2007 After leaving the VVA, I retraced by steps back to the south side of to Newark to look for the F-4 at the airport. I did find it, and it was displayed between two hangars. It was only visible from outside a fence. The sun had started to rise, so I managed to get a decent shot of it by holding my camera up over the fence. From that point I headed off to Columbus to attend the air show, the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends.

Vietnam Veterans Association Post 55 Newark, Ohio, USA 28 September 2007 On the Friday morning I left my hotel early. I found a decent place to eat breakfast, then I was off to find a F-4 and UH-1 in two different locations in Newark. I choose to look for the UH-1 first since the sun had not quite risen yet, and it would take me a few minutes to get there as it is on the north side of town and I was approaching from the south. I found the UH-1 at the VVA and managed to get a few shows with one decent picture even though the sun had not yet risen.

Friendship Park Smithfield, Ohio, USA 27 September 2007 After leaving the VFW in Imperial, I only had to go a short distance to get onto route 22. I then traveled west, eventually leaving Pennsylvania and crossing a narrow section of West Virginia to get to Ohio. Once in Ohio I turned south along route 7 to the road west that takes one into Smithfield. I was quickly loosing the light with a very nice sunset in progress. I had to stop for gas, but after filling up I quickly made my way to the local airport with a race track nearby. There is a war memorial on the grounds of the track which includes an F-89 and O-2. I managed to get a few pictures even though the light was quickly disappearing. I didn’t figure on being able to make it to this site in time, so it was a bonus and another good reason for not sticking around Sackets Harbor earlier in the morning for the sun to rise. Even though the light was lost I headed over to Cadiz to try and find a T-33 at the local airport. The gate was closed so I would need to visit on the return trip. At that point I was tired and didn’t want to scout out any more sites so I just continued my trip west along I-70 to get to my hotel near Newark.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7714 Imperial, Pennsylvania, USA 27 September 2007 The next leg of my trip was also a short one. I only had to travel a few miles south on some streets to Imperial. I found the local VFW with a F-86 displayed outside quite easily and snapped a few shots. This one could use a new coat of paint, but other than that it looked to be in good condition.

Pennsylvania ANG Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA 27 September 2007 From Beaver Falls it was then south along route 60 to the Pittsburgh Airport and the ANG base. I found the base on the south side of the airport with the F-102 displayed outside of the gate. I parked my car close to road along side of the driveway into the base. When I got out of the car with my camera I motioned to the guards at the nearby gate that I wanted to take pictures of the F-102. A guard came out to meet me and told me in no uncertain terms that I was not to take pictures that included the gate or check point. Note to all, when taking pictures near a military facility, even from public vantage points, it is wise to communicate your intentions to the military personnel that may be nearby. I was also able to get a shot of a C-135 vertical fin on the other side of the driveway. When I was done I waved to the guards, they waved back and I was on my way.

Beaver County Airport Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, USA 27 September 2007 The next leg of my trip was a short one. I left Air Heritage and continued along the airport access road to the terminal. I was looking for the F-86 and found it. There was also a bonus of three Fouga Magisters parked on the ramp behind it! I snapped a few pictures of course.

Air Heritage Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, USA 27 September 2007 After striking out in Corry, I traveled secondary roads south west to I-79, south on I-79 for a while, then as I was approaching Pittsburgh I got off the highway and traveled west into Beaver Falls. I was actually looking for an AH-1 at a VFW in New Galilee, but I didn’t have good maps and almost got lost. I found myself in Beaver Falls first, so I gave up on the AH-1 and went looking for the F-86 at the Beaver Falls airport. Before I saw the Sabre I came across Air Heritage and was pleasantly surprised to see they were still open. My schedule didn’t have me getting there until after closing (I am glad I didn’t wait around in Sackets Harbor for the sun to come up), so I took advantage of the few minutes I had to take some pictures. They were in the process or closing the hangar doors so the results are not great.

Erie County Memorial Gardens Inc. Erie, Pennsylvania, USA 27 September 2007 After leaving Hamburg it was back to I-90 to continue my journey south-west. When I got to Erie I got off at the exit east of where the F-94 was. I did not have a confirmed location, so it took at bit of time to find the entrance to the cemetery in which it is displayed. I did find it, and was careful to be respectful of the graves while taking some photos of the displayed Starfire. After leaving Hamburg I traveled to Corry to look for a F-86. Two locals confirmed there was no F-86 in Corry, but the F-94 in Erie had been displayed in Corry previously.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1419 Hamburg, New York, USA 27 September 2007 Hamburg was the next stop on my trip. I had actually intended to visit Eden first, but missed an exit off I-90. After leaving Eden I traveled north along route 62 and I found the A-4 and AH-1 outside of Hamburg on the North West side at the local VFW. The two are prominently displayed out front along with a tank so the display can’t be missed. It is interesting how a number of stickers have been applied to the A-4. I don’t know what that is about.

American Legion Post 880 Eden, New York, USA 27 September 2007 I left Sackets harbor and found my way to I-80. I then went south on I-80 to Syracuse. From there I travelled west on I-90 to Buffalo where I continued on I-90 but in a south-west direction towards Eden. In Eden I located the park maintained by the local Legion post with the AH-1 displayed. It was much later in the morning by this point, but due to the heavy overcast it was still a small challenge taking pictures. I did manage to take a series of walk-around photos.

Alexander Corners Veterans Memorial Henderson, New York, USA 27 September 2007 After leaving the Legion in Sackets Harbor, I turned south to Henderson to look for the AH-1 at a memorial there. Unfortunately Henderson isn’t far from Sackets Harbor, and I arrived at the memorial before the sun rose there as well. Using a park bench to steady the camera I was able to get a slightly better picture, but the result was still poor. Again I would suggest you not bother clicking the link to the album as there is only one photo there.

American Legion Post 1757 Sackets Harbor, New York, USA 27 September 2007 I left my home in Ottawa at 4 AM to start my road trip to Columbus, Ohio, for the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends air show. My first stop was the Legion in Sackets Harbor, New York. Unfortunately due to bad planning and a heavily overcast sky I arrived at the Legion before the sun had risen. I wasn’t willing to wait for the sun to come up (a decision I was happy I made later in the day), so I just pointed the car at the AH-1 and turned on the high beams and took this rather poor picture. There is just the one shot in the photo album, so don’t bother clicking to see any more.

CFB North Bay North Bay, Ontario, Canada 2 August 2007 Catherine and I made a trip to Sundbury to visit Science North. While on the resturn leg to Ottawa we stopped in North Bay with one of our stop the Canadian Forces Base. There are a few aircraft on the base which can be viewed. Photography is not allowed, which I found out while taking pictures of the displayed aircraft. Fortunately the MP was understanding.

Vintage Wings of Canada Open House Gatineau, Québec, Canada 1 September 2007 This was the fourth Open House of the season held by Vintage Wings of Canada. Although not an airshow, it is a day where visitors can view the hangar and aircraft. The pilots were able to build their time in the aircraft with practice flights and there were visiting aircraft. The theme was fighters so the Mustang and Spitfire were prominently featured.

Department of National Defence - Shirley's Bay Ottawa, Ontario, Canada 25 August 2007 I returned to Shirley's Bay to show the CT-133 and CF-116 to a friend. We were lucky find the compound with the CF-116 open and accessible to visitors. I got a few close-up shots this time instead of shots from a distance over the fence.

CFB Saint Hubert Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Québec, Canada 15 August 2007 I left Saint Jean and headed north to Montreal to find a CF-100 at CFB Saint Hubert. I found it and snapped a few photos. Apparently this CF-100 is the last one to fly, making it an extra special airframe. Once I got my photos I checked my maps and planned a route back to Ottawa. I arrived back home at 9:30 PM.

Royal Military College Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Québec, Canada 15 August 2007 Not far from CFB Saint Jean, just a few blocks to the east, is the Royal Military College. On that base you will find a number of tanks and artillery displayed. They also have a CF-100 displayed there.

CFB Saint Jean Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Québec, Canada 15 August 2007 After leaving Knowlton I headed west knowing my day was drawing to a close. I arrived in Saint-Jean-Sur-Rechelieu and then found CFB Saint Jean. The guard at the gate gave me permission to enter an photograph the CF-100 and CF-104 there. If you are planning on visiting I recommend you make an appointment ahead of time as I very nearly was not allowed access.

Brome County Museum Knowlton, Quebec, Canada 15 August 2007 After leaving Hyde Park I turned nearly due north for the Canadian border. I crossed at a small secondary crossing then it wasn't far to Knowlton home to the Brome County Museum which is home to a rare original Fokker D.VII. Naturally I snapped a few photos and talked to the staff. Apparently this Fokker is still covered by it's orignal canvas and paint!

VFW Post 7779 Hyde Park, Vermont, U.S.A. 15 August 2007 After leaving Middlesex I turned north looking for a place called Hyde Park. I found the town and the VFW just west of the town. It is located on top of a hill with an OH-6 prominently mounted on a pole out front within view of the road. Of course I stopped to take a picture or two.

Camp Meade (Motel) Middlesex, Vermont, U.S.A. 15 August 2007 When I left Burlington I headed south-east to the village of Middlesex. Just outside of the village is the motel Camp Meade. This establishment features a F-86 in the court yard surrounded by the cabins of the motel. Not far away, and not really displayed, but rather stored was an AT-11. This place is worth stopping for if on the way by, and looks like a decent place to say if you need a room for the night.

Vermont Air National Guard Burlington, Vermont, USA 15 August 2007 I after leaving the National Guard displays, I turned south for a short distance to visit the Air National Guard on the north side of the airport. This is a nice collection of aircraft including a rare F-89 and F-94.

Vermont National Guard Burlington, Vermont, USA 15 August 2007 After the leaving Plattsburgh I took the ferry across Lake Champlain which put me just north of Burlington, VT. It wasn't too hardto tind the National Guard, and out front of their main gate they have number of pieces of army equipment displayed including two helicopters, and in addition a F-4 Phantom II.

Plattsburgh AFB Plattsburgh, New York, USA 15 August 2007 I went on another one day road trip this day, leaving Ottawa at 6:30 AM. My first stop was Plattsburgh, NY. I heard the B-47 and F-111 had been relocated. They were only moved across the street so I found them easily. I added the pictures to the feature photo album for Platsburgh AFB.

CFB Petawawa Petawawa, Ontario, Canada 13 August 2007 I took the week off from work. Catherine was busy, so this day was a perfect day for a mini road trip. I had not visited CFB Petawawa before. I knew there was a CH-136 and C-47 displayed at this Canadian Forces Base, but what I didn't know was there were a number of tanks, trunks and artilery displayed as well. Although a little off-topic (non-aviation), they were a pleasant surprise!

Geneseo Air Show and Biplane Rally Geneseo, New York, U.S.A. 13-15 July 2007 After leaving Lowville Catherine and I headed straight for Geneseo for the weekend and the Geneseo Air Show. This show is always fantastic and is worth the effort for anyone that can attend.

Veterans of Foreign Wars - Farney Hall Lowville, New York, U.S.A. 13 July 2007 Only a few days off from the previous airshow and Catherine and I were off to the Geneseo Air Show. CFB Kinston Kingston, Ontario, Canada 9 July 2007 After the RCAF Memorial Museum it was back to the 401 and another easterly leg on my trip home, this time with a stop in Kingston. I had not stopped by for a few years and I wanted to confirm the locations of the CF-116 and CH-136 for the Locator. I snapped a few pictures as well. Next stop... home!

RCAF Memorial Museum Trenton, Ontario, Canada 9 July 2007 Just a short distance away from the CT-133 is the RCAF Memorial Museum. I heard the CF-100 from the grounds of CFB Trenton had been moved to the museum, so I stopped by for a few pictures. It was raining lightly and there was much lightning in the area. I figured it was not a good idea to be standing in the open beside aluminum aircraft in those conditions, so I snapped a few quick pictures and left quickly.

CFB Trenton Trenton, Ontario, Canada 9 July 2007 After leaving the Markham airport I turned south to get to highway 401, then east again with my next destination being CFB Trenton. I heard there was a new gate guard and I found it was the brilliantly painted CT-133. I managed to get a few pictures from inside the car even though it was raining heavily.

Canadian Air Land Sea Museum Markham, Ontario, Canada 9 July 2007 I continued by trip east out of Toronto, but did not go far when I stopped at the Markham airport to view the aircraft on display there. Public access is not allowed to the airfield, so I could only take pictures of the latest acquisitions from a distance including a number of CF-116 fuselages.

Defence Research and Development Canada Toronto, Ontario, Canada 9 July 2007 Not far from the Toronto Aerospace Museum is Defence Research and Development Canada. The name says it all. Thunder Over Michigan Belleville, Michigan, U.S.A. 6-8 July 2007 After leaving Sterling Heights I headed straight for Belleville and the Yankee Air Force Museum's air show, Thunder Over Michigan. This is one of the best shows going, and this year they featured a gathering of 15 B-25s! The Blue Angels were there as well and the event was very well attended. If you even have a chance to go I highly recommend it.

American Legion Post 4 Mount Clemens, Michigan, U.S.A. 6 July 2007 Getting up in the morning I didn't waste any time getting back on the road. I headed west along the 401 to Windsor where I crossed the border into Detroit. I then took a bit of a side trip north to the Detroit suburb of Mount Clemens to photograph the F-101 at the legion hall there.

Niagara Falls ANG Niagara Falls, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 Another short hop, this time to the west placed me at the Niagara Falls airport, home to the ANG. Although not accessible to the public, a few of the airframes can be viewed from public areas, although not well. I photographed what I could. Since it was now after 7 PM, representing 12 hours of warbird hunting, I called it quits for the day and crossed the border back into Ontario where I overnighted.

Town of Wheatfield Highway Department Wheatfield, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 I then headed north to find Wheatfield, a suburb of Niagara Falls. There I found the municipal garage with a UH-1 on display. The machine is in decent shape except for the fact birds have found a way inside.

Water M. Kenney Field Tonawanda, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 I stopped for dinner, at a rest stop along the I-90, then continued my trip by traveling to Buffalo. It was in the suburb of Tonawanda that I managed to find a baseball/soccer field with a F9F on display. This one appears to have been maintained over the years with liberal coats of paint, but is obviously used as a piece of playground equipment which is no surprise as there is a play structure nearby. Not the best example of the F9F I have seen, but at least it is preserved.

Vintage Aircraft Group Albion, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 I then returned to the I-90 for a short distance, getting off to visit the airport at Batavia. I had no luck finding the new organization Genesee Warbirds so I turned north to albion to look for the Vintage Aircraft Group. I found them at the airport but they were closed. With lightning in the area I wasted no time photographing their T-33 and ran back to the car as a heavy rain started to fall.

American Legion Post 8495 - Freedom Hill Memorial Perinton, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 After leaving Shortsville I traveled west on the I-90 for a short distance then north into Rochester to find the suburb of Perinton. There I found a UH-1 Iroquois displayed as part of a war memorial. It was a very well maintained park and very much shows the dedication of the local legion post.

American Legion Post 34 Shortsville, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 After leaving Oriskany I traveled to Syracuse to try to view the aircraft at the ANG. Unfortunately they are not accessible to the public, so I continued west along I-90 to Shortsville where I found the F-86 at the legion there. It is painted in an odd light blue colour which I thought was strange until I noticed the nearby water tower was painted the same colour. Hmmmmm...... It was raining quite heavily at the time, so I just snapped a few photos from inside the car.

USS Oriskany Memorial Oriskany, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 I didn't have to travel far after leaving Rome to find the villiage of Oriskany. It was about a half an hour drive to the east south-east. Displayed prominently in the centre of the villiage is a memorial to the USS Oriskany which includes an A-4 Skyhawk.

Mohawk Valley B-52 Memorial Rome, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 I then headed east from Central Square to Gnome in search of a large warbird, a B-52. I found it displayed in a memorial park on the former Griffith AFB. It is an imposing airframe.

American Legion Post 915 Central Square, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 After leaving Parish I traveled a short distance south to Central Square. I heard an F-86 was displayed in the area, but could not find it using Google Earth. The reason it may have been difficult to find is that it is parked under a large tree. The airframe appeared to be in good shape except for some damage to part of the wind screen.

American Legion Post 601 Parish, New York, U.S.A. 5 July 2007 I left Ottawa at 7 AM and started the first leg of my trip from Ottawa to Thunder Over Michigan. I consider these good conditions to go warbird hunting so I went on my first January warbird hunt, and my first hunt in 2007.
