Notes: The number 2 Rotor Systems Research Aircraft undergoing maintenance in a hangar at the NASA Ames Research Center. The RSRA was developed to allow the in-flight measurement of helicopter rotor characteristics. The RSRAs could be fitted with TF34 turbofans and wings to allow compound helicopter configurations to be experimentally investigated in-flight.

Airframe: de Havilland Canada UC-8A Buffalo, c/r N715NA
Notes: NASAs QSRA in the hangar at the NASA Ames Research Center. The QSRA was a DHC-5 Buffalo, modified by Boeing by the installation of a new wing. QSRA was used for researching upper surface blowing, which allowed the aircraft to fly at very high lift coefficients. When this picture was taken, the four engines (left over from the Northrop YA-9A program) had been removed.

Notes: On display at the 1979 EAA Fly In at Oshkosh. Though painted as a C-47, this is actually a DC-3 which served with Eastern Airlines from 1939 to about 1951.

Notes: At Edwards AFB - The Airborne Laser Laboratory (ALL) taxies out for a flight. Testing of the ALL culminated on May 26th, 1983 when the chemical laser firing from the dorsal turret (mounted on the other side of the fairing on top of the aircraft) shot down an AIM-9B missile.
