    From Unknown to October 1959

    Constructed as a F-106A-100-CO by Convair at San Diego, California, USA.
    138th F-106 produced by Convair at San Diego, CA

    4 November 1959

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 58-0787.

    4 November 1959

    To 27th FIS, Bangor Air Defense Sector, Loring AFB, ME.

    22 June 1960

    Transferred to 94th FIS, 1st Fighter Group, Selfridge AFB MI.

    26 May 1969

    Transferred to 71st FIS (Air Defense Command), 1st Fighter Group, Malmstrom AFB, MT.

    2 February 1970

    Crashed.
    During maneuvers, aircraft entered an unrecoverable flat spin at 38,000 ft and pilot ejected at about 15,000 ft. This apparently changed the aerodynamics and the aircraft entered a stable descending glide, landing in a snow-covered field near Box Elder, MT. The engine continued at idle for 1 hr 45 min before fuel exhaustion. Aircraft sustained substantial damage.

    March 1970

    Repair started.
    Because of the circumstances of the aircraft landing itself, it was deemed necessary to restore the aircraft to active duty. Personnel disassembled the aircraft and took it to a rail a mile from the crash site and shipped it by train to McClellan AFB, Sacramento, CA, arriving there in early March 1970.

    29 November 1971

    Repair completed.

    10 December 1971

    First post-restoration Flight.
    Test flown at McClellan AFB for 1.3 hrs by Maj. Irving L. Buck.

    5 January 1972

    Transferred to 84th FIS, 26th Air Division, Hamilton AFB, CA.

    30 May 1973

    Transferred to 49th FIS (ADC), 21st Air Division, Griffiss AFB, NY.
