    Constructed as a F-106A.
    Ordered as F-102B, but redesignated F-106A on 6/17/56 during construction.

    14 December 1956

    Transported by ground. Delivered to Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB CA from Convair San Diego, CA.
    For Phase I testing.

    22 December 1956

    Began taxi tests.

    26 December 1956

    First flight.
    The first flight was made by Convair test pilot Richard L. Johnson.The flight was not entirely glitch-free as it had to be aborted early due to air turbine motor frequency fluctuations, and the speed brakes opened but would not close. Consequently, the aircraft did not go supersonic on its first flight. (F-106 Delta Dart.com).

    May 1957

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 56-0451 as a YF-106A.

    From May 1957 to June 1957

    Conducted Phase II testing.

    From June 1957 to November 1957

    Aft CG and low-altitude flutter tests, systems testing, flight performance testing, etc.

    20 November 1957

    Ferried to San Diego for spin-test modifications.

    Redesignated as NF-106A.

    January 1958

    Ferried back to Edwards AFB for other modifications.

    February 1958

    Taxi tests for evaluating modifications.

    March 1958

    Flight tests resumed.

    27 March 1960

    Ferry flight. Delivered to United States Air Force Museum, Patterson Field (East Side), Dayton, OH.
    Since it had no navigation equipment installed, it was escorted by two F-106As being delivered to the 27th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Loring AFB, ME.
