    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 63-9676.

    1965

    Transferred to 20th Helicopter Squadron, Cannon AFB, NM.

    1965

    Base of operations changed.
    Deployed to South Vietnam, later redesignated 20th Special Operations Squadron.

    1966

    Converted to a CH-3E.

    From 1966 to 1972

    Nicknamed Black Maria, this aircraft was the 2nd H-3 Rescue aircraft in South East Asia. Operations in South Vietnam led the Viet Cong to place a $50,000 bounty on this aircraft and crew.

    Transferred to 302nd Special Operations Squadron, Luke AFB, AZ.

    Notes: Phillip DaweFollowing63-9676/LH - CH-3E - USAF / 302SOS AFRES - Luke AFB - A notable airframe, this aircraft was painted black and nicknamed Black Mariah while flying Pony Express special ops with the 302nd SOS in Vietnam.

    Transferred to 71st Special Operations Squadron, 58th Special Operations Wing, Kirtland AFB, NM.

    To National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright Field, Dayton, OH.
