Qualified in 6th place with an average speed of 337.25 mph. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 341.76 mph. Raced in Heat 2 Gold. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 345.19 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 354.74 mph.

    The airframe remained unchanged for this race. Competed at the National Air Races Los Angeles in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 1st place with an average speed of 382.00 mph. Raced in Heat B. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 369.16 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 370.54 mph.

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    The race was from Saint Petersburg, FL, to Reno. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Harolds Club Transcontinental race. The primary pilot was Clay Lacey. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 342.4 mph.

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    The airframe remained unchanged for this race. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 2nd place with an average speed of 359.10 mph. Raced in Heat B. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 362.36 mph. Raced in Heat 3 Silver. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 353.72 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 356.97 mph.

    From 23 September 1965 to 26 September 1965

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    Racing modifications were made and a P-51H Aeroproducts propeller was installed. Competed at the Las Vegas International Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 3rd place with an average speed of 382.00 mph. Raced in Heat. Finished in 64th place with an average speed of 64 mph. Raced in Heat 1A. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 365.87 mph. Started Heat 2B, but did not finish. Raced in the Trophy race. No time was recorded and finished in 5th place. Qualified in last position In the race trouble started after crossing the starting line with the engine running rough. When pulling out of the race CIay found engine smoothed out at lower speeds so he rejoined the race in last position.

    From 27 May 1966 to 30 May 1966

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    The airframe joined the competition in essentually the same configuration as the 1965 Reno race. This was the fastest entry with over 2,500 hp. Apparently arrived at the National Air Races Los Angeles, may have qualified and may even have competed in the Unlimited class, but we do not have any documented results (no times or placements). The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. No results were recorded for the race. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 358.87 mph. Started the Trophy race, but did not finish. In the race Clay took the lead and was increasing the lead when the propeller pitch control failed with the propeller went into nearly full-feathered condition. Clay left the race on lap eight and landed safely.

    From 21 September 1966 to 26 September 1966

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    The aicraft still appeared as stock but included a highly tuned Merlin engine. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 6th place with an average speed of 362.25 mph. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 355.87 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 360.63 mph.

    Notes: Some remember that in the 1960s Clay Lacy took the place of the Galloping Ghost at Cleveland but being forever in 3rd place in the Unlimited Class Final Race. Well almost like the Galloping Ghost which was a consistent 4th place finisher at Cleveland, the lone exception being 1948. Bob Pauley photo.

    It is unclear if this was an actual race, or just a demonstration event. Appeared at the Pomona Valley International Air Races and Air Show, but did not qualify. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy.

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    Competed at the National Air Races Cleveland in the Transcontinental race. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Did not start in the One Mile Course race.

    From 20 September 1967 to 24 September 1967

    Raced as #64, named CALIFORNIA AIRMOTIVE.
    The airframe remained essentially stuck but with smoothing and sealing of seams and joints and kept the highly tuned Merlin. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 4th place with an average speed of 392.73 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 363.21 mph.

    Raced as #64, named CONROY AIRCRAFT.
    No further modifications. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 3rd place with an average speed of 362.56 mph. Raced in Heat B. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 374.69 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 388.12 mph.

    Notes: Clay Lacys passionate purple Mustang arrived in at Reno in 1968 in passionate natural metal! The passionate purple paint would be on the fuselage but not the wings for the Gold Final that year. Clay actually finished the race in second place but a cut pylon relegated him to his usual third place.

    No further modifications. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 2nd place with an average speed of 380.60 mph. Raced in Heat B. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 364.72 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 371.70 mph.

    Certificate of airworthiness for N64CL (F-51D, 10216) issued.
    At this point, at least from the FAA point of view, the airframe adopted the ID of USAAF s/n 44-10216. It is possible components from this airframe were used in a restoration.

    No further modifications. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 1st place with an average speed of 380.12 mph. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 357.62 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 387.34 mph.

    The race was from Milwaukee Mitchell Municipal Airport to Civic Memorial Airport, to East Alton, IL (309 miles). Competed at the Alton P-51 Tournament in the XCountry class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 353.8 mph.

    Raced as #64, named Miss Van Nuys.
    Competed at the Alton P-51 Tournament in the Thirty Second Climb competition. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 1st place. Attained an altitude of 1,313 feet in 30 seconds.

    Competed at the Alton P-51 Tournament in the Measured Mile. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 409.0 mph.

    Appeared at the Cape May National Air Races to compete in the Unlimited class, but did not qualify. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Raced in Heat 1B. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 351.04 mph. Raced in Heat 2C. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 332.80 mph. Raced in Heat 2B. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 344.27 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 354.96 mph. Arrived too late to qualify but allowed to race.

    Raced as #64, named Omni Unlimited Special.
    Appeared at the National Championship Air Races to compete in the Unlimited class, but did not qualify. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Failed to complete second qualification lap due to magneto problems. It was too late to requalify.

    Raced as #64.
    Competed at the Miami International Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 380.891 mph.

    Raced as #64, named Miss Lois Jean.
    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Clay Lacy. Qualified in 20th place with an average speed of 409.28 mph. Raced in Heat B. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 395.07 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 380.89 mph.
