    Constructed as an OS2U-3.

    15 March 1942

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 5909.
    TOS at NAS New York.

    April 1942

    Transferred to NAS Norfolk, VA.

    May 1942

    Transferred to Battleship USS Indiana (BB-58).

    1942

    After the Indiana arrived in the Pacific, Navy pilots flying this OS2U performed a variety of missions including bombing, utility, and administrative chores at many locations.

    December 1942

    Transferred to Com F Air Scouting Squadron VS-5-D-14, New Caledonia.

    1943

    Transferred to Scouting Squadron 55 (VS-55), New Caldonia.
    VS-5-D-14 was redesignated.

    Circa October 1943

    Transferred to NAS Alameda, CA.
    Underwent a six-month overhaul and received new combat equipment, and returned to Pearl Harbor.

    March 1944

    Transferred to Battleship USS Indiana (BB-58).

    4 July 1944

    Rescued two downed airmen while under fire off Guam (in the face of an intense barrage directed at him by the enemy guns) and returned to the Indiana; pilot awarded the Navy Cross.

    August 1944

    Transferred to Carrier Aircraft Service Unit Thirty Four (CASU-34), NAS Kwajalein, Marshall Islands.

    December 1944

    Transferred to NAS Alameda, CA.
    Shipped to NAS Alameda aboard the USS Bougainville CVE-100) for overhaul.

    May 1945

    Transferred to NAS Norfolk, VA.

    Circa March 1947

    Assigned to NAS Weeksville, Elizabeth City, NC for storage.
    Earmarked for National Air Museum.

    1949

    Assigned to NAS Norfolk, VA for storage.

    October 1960

    To National Air Museum restoration and storage facility, Suitland, MD.
    Later named after Paul Garber.

    July 1968

    Loaned to USS Massachusetts Memorial, Battleship Cove, MA.

    December 1980

    Returned from loan to Smithsonian, National Air and Space Museum, Paul Garber Facility, Silver Hill, MD.
