    Constructed as a P-38F-1-LO by Lockheed at Burbank, California, USA.

    Circa 1941

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 41-7630.

    15 July 1942

    Crashed.
    Forced landing on the Greenland ice cap while on a ferry flight to England. Pilot rescued, but the airframe was abandoned on site.

    To Greenland Expedition Society/Pat Epps.

    From 1992 to By 1992

    Recovered.
    Extracted from under 240 feet of ice.

    1 August 1992

    The recovery was completed and the last components were transferred to the USA by helicopter, ship, barges and trucks.

    October 1992

    Restoration started.
    Work started at Middlesboro-Bell County Airport, KY.

    First engine runs at Middlesboro.

    Certificate of airworthiness for NX17630 (P38F, 41-7630) issued.

    26 October 2002

    First post-restoration Flight.
    Flown at Middlesboro.

    Based at Murrieta, CA.

    During a ferry flight to England for airshow appearances became stranded at Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada, with engine trouble.

    Repaired.
    Returned to service.
