    Constructed as a YB-58A-CF by Consolidated at Fort Worth, TX, USA.

    20 March 1958

    First flight.

    Used as the GE J79-GE-5 engine test aircraft using a special centerline pod.

    8 November 1958

    Flew 32 minutes at sustained Mach2 with the YJ79-GE-5s.

    29 April 1959

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 55-0666.

    1 May 1959

    Converted to a YRB-58A.
    Retained by Convair for use as a test and evaluation aircraft.

    16 August 1962

    Made longest B-58 early test program flight of 11 hours 15 minutes.

    November 1962

    Transferred to 6510th Operational Maintenance Squadron (Air Force Systems Command), Edwards AFB, CA.

    May 1964

    Transferred to 3345th Maintenance and Support Group (Air Training Command), Chanute AFB, IL.

    May 1965

    Redesignated as GRB-58A.

    1967

    Struck off Strength/Charge from the United States Air Force.
    Transferred to museum status.

    To National Museum of the United States Air Force Loan Program, Wright Field, Dayton, OH.

    Loaned to Chanute Air Museum, Rantoul, IL.

    1993

    Placed on display with Chanute Air Museum, Chanute AFB (formerly), Rantoul, IL.

    Markings Applied: Greased Lightning, 61-2059
    Marked as B-58A 61-2059, which flew non-stop, air refueled, from Tokyo to London in 8 hrs 35 min.
