    Some parts, including wing centre section, sold to Bill Baird to be used in repair of VX686 and shipped to Queen Creek, Arizona. Aerial Visuals considers the ID of an airframe to follow the cockpit/center section, so in other words the components of the VX686 restoration project were used to restore VR919.

    There have also been reports the rear fuselage of TG114 became part of the restoration project.

    The airframe had been restored to stock condition and had no racing modifications. An original Bristol Centaurus 18 was installed. Competed in the California 1000 Air Races event. The primary pilot was Bob Metcalf and Lyle Shelton. Qualified in 3rd place with an average speed of 324.18 mph. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 324.18 mph.

    Notes: Frank Sanders restoration of this Hawker Sea Fury in 1970 came as the Warbird movement was starting to take hold. Beautifully restored to authentic wartime colors, this Sea Fury was a good race plane as well having been flown to victory in the 1971 running of the California 1000 at Mojave. A beautiful image of this great plane at the 1972 Reno Air Races.
