    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 56-3730.

    20 May 1957

    On the 30th anniversary of Charles Lindberghs trans-Atlantic flight, this F-100F flew the same route in an astonishing 6 hours and 33 minutes. Lindbergh flew the route in 33.5 hours. The pilot of this flight was USAF Major John Robinson Risner. Major Risner would later be shot down in Vietnam and would be one of the highest ranking POWs of the war.

    Transferred to 4440th Aircraft Delivery Group, Langley AFB, VA.

    27 September 1961

    Transferred to 120th TFS, 140th TFG, Colorado ANG, Buckley AFB, CO.

    From 23 June 1964 to 31 March 1969

    To SMAAR (Sacramento Air Material Area), McClellan AFB, CA.

    6 January 1970

    Transferred to 120th TFS, 140th TFG, Colorado ANG, Buckley AFB, CO.
    Operated with markings: Spirit of St. Louis II, COLORADO

    Transferred to 162nd TFS, 178th TFG, Ohio ANG, Springfield ANGB, OH.
    Operated with markings: SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS II, Pilot CAPT. Ed Mechenbier
    Ed Mechenbier comments: The aircraft was assigned to the 162nd TFS, Ohio Air National Guard in the 1960s and 1970s. It had my name on the side for those years. I was a POW in North Vietnam with Colonel Risner and when I was assigned to the 162nd, I chose it to be my ride. Ed Mechenbier, USAFA Class of 64, MGen, USAF (Ret).
