    1918

    Constructed as a CL.IV (Rol) by Luft-Fahrzeug-Gesellschaft (LFG) at Berlin, Germany.

    1918

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Imperial German Air Service with s/n 8103/18.

    1919

    To Paul Strahle, Germany.
    World War I flying ace bought this surplus aircraft as an incomplete fuselage together with another CL.IV fuselage, a CLS.I fuselage, several sets of wings, engines, many other spare parts and three complete Halberstadt CL.IV planes (one license-built by LFG). They were to be used in his newly founded aviation company Luftverkehr Strahle.

    1919

    By the end of the year these aircraft and spares were confiscated by the Allies. Strahle was not allowed to own them under terms of the Versailles Treaty.

    1920

    Strahle bought them back from the reparation commission for ten times of the original purchase price. Three complete airplanes started flight operations with his company. Incomplete fuselages of two CL.IV and one CLS.I were put to storage.

    From 1920 to 1982

    Stored in various places in Germany, mostly in Schorndorf.

    1982

    To Ken Hyde and Stan Parris, Warrenton, VA.
    Purchased from Strahle together with another incomplete CL.IV fuselage, a CLS.I fuselage, several sets of wings, engines, many other spare parts and complete Halberstadt CL.IV (Rol) D-IBAO.

    1984

    To United States Air Force Museum, Dayton, OH.
    Hyde and Parris swapped their entire Halberstadt collection in exchange for six surplus T-28 trainers.

    October 1984

    To Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D. C.
    USAF Museum donated to NASM incomplete fuselage of 8103/18 together with a set of wings, a tail section, and a large number of other spare parts.

    Circa 1988

    NASM and USAF Museum made an agreement with Museum fur Verkehr und Technik in Berlin by which MVT will restore and rebuilt all three Halberstadt CL.IV planes: the NASM example and the CL.IV fuselage together with CL.IV (Rol) D-IBAO still in the possession of the USAF Museum. In return, MVT will keep D-IBAO, CLS.I fuselage and remaining spare parts.

    From 1989 to June 1991

    Restored.
    By Museum fur Verkehr und Technik, Berlin, Germany.

    Markings Applied: 8103/18
    Original markings restored 8103/18. However the NASM web-site states it is 8130, probably just a typo.

    Loaned to Museum fur Verkehr und Technik, Berlin, Germany.
    In 1996 renamed as Deutsches Technikmuseum.

    By 1999

    Loaned to Deutsches Museum Flugwerft Schleissheim, Oberschleissheim, Bavaria.
