    1939

    Constructed as an ARE.
    Built for the New York Daily News for use as an executive transport and photography platform. Both right side windows were modified to be square in shape, and were fitted with plate glass. The windows were able to be fully lowered into the fuselage sides to press cameras could be used. It was fitted with a Jacobs R755 radial.

    Famous New York area pilot Pete Brucia was assigned to fly the plane during its use at NYDN.

    To LeRoy Davis, Baltimore, MD with c/r N20953.

    29 April 1956

    Certificate of airworthiness for N20953 (ARE, 5080) issued.

    To Dolphin D (Dolph) Overton, SC.

    Restored.
    Mr. Overton enlisted the services of Andy Anderson of Missouri for the restoration. It was recovered and painted white with green trim.

    Stored for years at Camden, NC.

    21 April 1970

    Certificate of airworthiness for N20953 (ARE, 5080) issued.

    1973

    To Richard P (Dick) Austin, Greensboro, NC.

    Ferry flight.
    Moved from Camden, NC to the Lake Norman Airpark (14A) at Moorseville, NC.

    An annual inspection was performed, and Cessna 310 wheels/brakes were installed, replacing original expander tube brakes. The radios were also updated and new wheel pants were installed.

    1973

    Was exhibited at Oshkosh. Flew through rain enroute and most of the paint on all leading edges was beaten off. There were people at the show who thought it was somehow painted that way.

    New Alumigrip/Imron paint scheme was applied.

    30 April 1977

    The owner, Dick Austin, dies in plane crash.

    Purchased from the estate of Mr. Austin.

    Restored.

    To Ronald E. Tarrson, Chicago, IL.

    22 June 2003

    Crashed.
    The accident occurred at the W K Kellogg Airport (BTL) Battle Creek, MI, United States while landing. The damage was substantial. The airplane sustained substantial damage on impact with the runway during landing roll. The pilot reported that weather was clear with winds variable at 5 knots and was not a factor. The pilot stated, Ground roll continued, aircraft came to the left a bit, inputted a little right rudder to correct. At this point, there was a sudden and strong learch forward...
