Markings Applied: Vernie SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY, QUAKER CITY, 40, K, 6

Notes: 1980 photo at Pima Air and Space Museum, Tucson, AZ - of a Boeing TB-29J Superfortress

    Restored.
Wendell Montague commented - 4 January 2014: During the restoration a relative of Lester Gilbert told of some of the wartime missions. One crew member complained of no windows in the back, a flack hit fixed that problem. An other instance another aircraft was above at bomb release and Sentimental Journeys tail was badly damaged. To this day battle damage repairs can still be seen on the flap and the flack damage that created a window. The airframe was assigned to squadron where the aircraft were named after the Seven Dwarves from Snow White. This aircraft was named Dopey when in that squadron. One other aircraft from this squadron survives today, Doc. Doc is in Kansas being restored to airworthy status.

    1980

Wendell Montague commented - 4 January 2014: Used in the filming of the move Enola Gay. During the filming a member of the crew of sentimental journey recognised the tail number and told the Pima Air Museum. During this time it was discovered that the wartime markings were still etched in the aircraft skin.
