Depicted as HU-16B s/n 51-0071 which was destroyed by enemy fire while attempting to rescue the crew of a downed USAF F-4 off Haiphong in the Gulf of Tonkin on Mar 14, 1966. The HU-16B landed in the sea close to the shoreline. It was quickly approached by several North Vietnamese boats. They began to open fire on the Albatross, finally firing a mortar that scored a direct hit. The flying boat burst into flames and resulted in 2 of the HU-16B crew killed. The survivors were later rescued by Navy helicopters.
