    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 36976.

    From 1944 to 1945

    Served with Utility Squadrons 4 and 16, and also on board the USS Franklin (CV-13) during WWII.

    1947

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Armada de la Republica Argentina.
    Sold to Argentine Navy by USN.

    1963

    To C. E. Crosby of Bellingham, WA with new c/r N1196N.

    From 1966 to 1969

    To Flying Tigers Museum and Warbird School, Honeygrove, TX keeping c/r N1196N.

    Several owners between 1963 and when Tallmantz acquired the aircraft.

    January 1970

    To Tallmantz Aviation, Orange County Airport, CA keeping c/r N1196N.

    From March 1970 to Circa August 1970

    Flew in Venezuela for the movie Murphys War.

    14 September 1970

    Involved in an incident.
    Summarized NTSB narrative from report number FTW71FQG35: There were no fatalities. Incident occurred at 17:00 hours. There was minor damage. Incident occurred at the Amarillo Mun. Airport, Amarillo, TX. Ground looped or water swerved while taxiing from landing. The factors included; corrosion. Report remarks include: Corrosion weakened tailwheel fork bent causing tailwheel tire to blow out. Wing tips, floats dmgd.

    Restoration completed.
    Restoration took 14 months to complete with the cooperation of the Grumman Corporation at their facility on Long Island.

    1983

    Placed on display.
    Placed on display when the AirVenture Museum opened.

    Based at EAA Airventure Museum, Whittman Regional Airport, Oshkosh, WI.
