What was supposed to be the last flight of an Oklahoma National Guard airplane before being retired to a museum pedestal never got off the ground. A spectacular finale was planned for the L-17 liaison plane; it was scheduled to fly from the National Guard base at Max Westheimer Field to Expressway Air Park with Major General Donald F. Ferrell, the first Air Force National Guard general to become Oklahoma adjutant general,at the controls. It was to make its way from there to the parking lot of the 45th Infantry Division Museum by a National Guard Blackhawk helicopter.
