    Constructed as a W-2.
    Steve Wittman built the prototype Witts V to help spur interest in the new Formula V racing class. Formula V racers were powered by Volkswagen automobile engines and were intended to provide a low cost entry into air racing.The Witts V proved very competitive and very successful. Steve Wittman sold plans for the aircraft, so several other Witts Vs were built and competed against it in the class.

    Raced as #1.
    Competed at the Sturgis Air Races in the Formula Vee class. The primary pilot was Steve Wittman. Qualified in 1st place with an average speed of 155.172 mph. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 153.584 mph.

    From 1 September 1979 to 3 September 1979

    Raced as #1.
    Competed at the Cleveland Air Races in the Formula Vee class. The primary pilot was Steve Wittman. Qualified in 1st place with an average speed of 168.487 mph. Raced in Heat 1A. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 151.084 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 166.069 mph.

    Certificate of airworthiness for NX3259 (WV, 11) issued.

    From 31 May 1981 to 31 May 1981

    Raced as #1.
    Competed at the Cincinnati Air Races in the Formula Vee class. The primary pilot was Steve Wittman. Raced in the One Mile Course race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 145.588 mph.

    From 15 April 1989 to 16 April 1989

    Raced as #1, named Witts V.
    Competed in the Daytona Formula Vee Air Races event. The primary pilot was Steve Wittman. Qualified in 3rd place with an average speed of 142.29 mph. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 147.89 mph.
