    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 43197 as a N2S-5.

    7 August 1986

    Crashed.
    The accident occurred at Tooele, UT, United States while cruising. The damage was substantial. The pilot reported that he encountered a downdraft while crossing a ridgeline in mountainous terrain, approximately 5 mile north-east of Tooele, UT. The elev of the acdnt site was about 9000 feet the temp was reported by the pilot to be 80 deg. This would have resultedin a density altitude of about 12500 ft. The pilot said he should have selected a route around the mountains.
