    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 88391.

    17 August 1945

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal New Zealand Air Force with s/n NZ5648.

    9 May 1949

    Struck off Strength/Charge from the Royal New Zealand Navy.

    From 9 May 1949 to 1970

    To Asplins Supplies/Rukuhia Salvage Co/J. Asplin, Rukuhia, Hamilton, NZ.
    Acquired in a tender for 32 surplus Corsairs.

    One of 32 Corsairs bought at auction by Mr.Asplin and stored at Rukuhia.

    Transported by ground.
    Trucked to the large aircraft scrapyard Rukuhia.

    From 1954 to 1962

    Others scrapped but NZ5648 was displayed at the garage.

    After 1960

    Restored.
    Restored to static condition by members of the Waikato Aero Club during the early 1960s and displayed in the open at Hamilton Airport.

    From 1962 to 1963

    Restored.
    Returned to taxying condition at Hamilton Airport by Waikato Aero Club.

    High speed taxy runs, then parked in open at Hamilton. It was later vandalised.

    From 1968 to 1971

    Loaned to Museum of Transport and Technology, Auckland.

    Markings Applied: Josephine II, NZ5611
    Displayed in RNZAF markings.

    From 1970 to 1971

    To Ed Jurist/Vintage Aircraft International, Nyack, NY.

    The fighter was sold to American Ed Jurist in 1971 and shipped to Los Angeles. Enroute, however, the ship was diverted to Vancouver, Canada, due to a dock strike on the US West Coast. At Vancouver the aircraft was unloaded but Ed Jurist then ran into trouble with the Canadian Authorities who declared it an article of war The aircraft was then stored for nearly two years as the bureaucratic wrangling continued. Eventually Ed Jurist sold -Josephine - to Jim Landry.

    Transported by ship.
    Shipped Auckland-USA but ship diverted to Vancouver.

    From 1971 to 1973

    Was impounded by Canadian Customs as an article of war. It was held in customs bond at Vancouver Airport.

    From 1973 to 1982

    To Jim Landry and Pat Palmer, Seattle, WA.
    Acquired for restoration.

    1982

    To Jim Landry and Pat Palmer, Seattle, WA with new c/r N55JP.

    Restored.
    The work was carried out at Washington-Paine Field, WA.

    17 July 1982

    First post-restoration Flight.
    After a 9 year restoration at a cost of 300,000 US Dollars. Flight was from Paine Field, Everett, Washington, USA.

    Markings Applied: Big Hog
    In the colour scheme and markings of Lt/ Cdr John T. Blackburn, CO of VF-17.

    To Sky Garden Centre Inc, Seattle, WA keeping c/r N55JP.

    1985

    To Peter W. Thelen, Fort Lauderdale, FL keeping c/r N55JP.

    From June 1985 to 1988

    To Lone Star Flight Museum/Robert L. Waltrip, Houston-Hobby, TX keeping c/r N55JP.

    From 1988 to 1991

    To Warbirds of GB Ltd/Doug Arnold, Biggin Hill keeping c/r N55JP.

    April 1989

    Transported by ship.
    Moved to the UK.

    Notes: Several ex-US Navy were imported to the UK via Felixstowe Docks, then towed along the A14, wings folded, to Ipswich Airport, where they continued their journey by air.
