    S/n allocated for production administrative purposes, aircraft did not serve with US forces.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n XV179.

    Involved in an incident.
    Summary: The airframe was written off. There were 10 fatalities. There were 24,200 hours on the airframe at the time. The military flight departed Baghdad International Airport (BGW/ORBI), Iraq and was destined for Balad Air Base, Iraq. The event occurred at near Al Taji (Iraq) while en route. Narrative: RAF Hercules XV179 departed Baghdad at 16:24 for a routine flight to Balad. The airplane was flying at low level when it was hit by enemy fire. The outboard 23 feet of the right wing separated and the Hercules became uncontrollable...
