    1989

Skytrader teamed with McDonnell-Douglas Helicopter Company and entered the Army Grisly-Hunter aircraft program to supply day/night intelligence gathering and reconnaissance capability in rugged terrain for the U.S. Military Intelligence Community. The Grisly Hunter system had been tested on the RG-8A aircraft, and a competition had been held between the CASA 212 and the Dominion Skytrader 800 as potential platforms. (Global Security).

    1989

    Redesignated as UV-23.
The Skytrader 800 had been selected as the Grisly Hunter platform, and given the designation UV-23A, before the decision was made to establish the ARL program and acquire the DHC-7, which was subsequently given the designation O-5A. (Global Security).

Through use of blown wings and the Coanda effect, the aircraft possessed an infrared suppression ratio of 20-to-1, which is excellent. Moreover, by changing the aircrafts gear box to reduce engine rpms and increasing the size of the turbo-prop by one foot, Skytrader was able to achieve a noise signature that is 20-to-30 percent below other aircraft types. Both IR suppression and noise reduction are key capabilities for intelligence missions. (Global Security).

    August 1989

To CAN AM Aviation Corporation, North Hollywood, CA.
Acquired after Skytrader declared bankruptcy after failing to get Army contract.

From By November 2003 to After 2010

Assigned to Top Flight Air Park, Washington County Regional Airport, Hagerstown MD for storage.
Derelict without engines, being used by California Microwave.

    Civil registration, N800ST, cancelled.
